Beginning with their first games in 1977, STERN pinballs used an MPU board which was virtually identical to the Bally brand MPU board at that time, the 2518-17 or early board. Stern called their board the MPU-100 and it was so close that that you can run all the early Bally games on the MPU-100 and all the STERN early games will run on the Bally 2518-17 (DASH SEVENTEEN). The numbering system which STERN used to identify the GAME ROMs was simple; every chip starts with the prefix "25A-ROM-P" and then a number which tells you everything you need to know. The following list shows the number, game name and location (U2 or U6) for all the early STERN GAMES. Note that a few chips are used for more than one game.

STERN's second series of games used their MPU-200. This board looks very much like the MPU-100, except that it has an additional 5101 RAM chip added at the bottom of the board. The MPU-200 board is capable of running every STERN game AND every BALLY game of that era, early and late. The following list shows the number, game name and location (U2 or U6) for all the late STERN GAMES. THESE GAMES WILL ONLY RUN ON THE MPU-200 BOARD!
The first three games in this series continued to use the early numbering system, but this was abandoned in favor of simply writing the name of the game and the chip location on the chip label. All of these games use four GAME ROMS unless otherwise noted.
